setting copy. Known to bibliographers and historians of printing as printer’s copy, the setting copy is the document or documents from which a compositor sets the text for a printed edition. The terms printer’s copy and copy-text are sometimes confused, but the former is a document (physical object) and the latter is a text (sequence of words and punctuation).
