edition (variorum)

Variorum edition. Edition in which the locations of all extant copies of each document are cited and variants among the versions noted; also, an edition that summarizes all available commentary on a given text.

There are subgenres of critical editing, such as the variorum, which displays all textual variants of a work on the reading page.

Some TEI documents (variorum editions) are transcriptions of several different editions of a single text. In these documents, a given section of transcripts could be aligned with multiple images, taken from the different editions.
